I attended The Women Talk meet up yesterday and it was a beautiful and intimate meeting with the few people who showed up. When the zoom meeting started, It was just myself and the founder of the community – Helen that were present. We had our chit chat as we waited for others to join. A few minutes later we had someone else join us and the conversation started in earnest. Now, this community has over a thousand women combined from all our various platforms yet most didn’t show up. I reckon most people are still in the festive mode and slowly getting back into the flow of things for the new year.

After a couple of minutes, Helen announced that she was going to go ahead with her presentation and so she did. This was already 30min into the meeting. To be honest, in my head I was like should we just end this meeting and look forward to the next one? But I am glad that Helen went ahead with her presentation and so we started with the ice breaker and started to share, soon someone else joined, and then another, and then another. And in the end, we all had a great time sharing and exchanging value and insights with one another. It ended up being a lovely 2hrs well spent with like-minded women who had fantastic goals for the new year.
Why am I sharing this with you? I had determined that in 2022 I will show up 100% regardless of the feedback that I got. I love feedback and so when they are not forthcoming I sometimes feel discouraged. However, I told myself that this year, I will not wait to be told whether I did good or not, I will just keep showing up and giving it my best shot. Do you know why? Because I know that there is power in it, regardless of who is watching or not, I am becoming.
Going back to the initial story, if Helen had ended the meeting at 30min mark the others who joined in later would have missed the meeting. What we learned from all the sharing would have been lost. And she would have started a new atomic habit of giving up easily, which over time can spread into other areas of her life. But I am glad that she stayed because even though I knew this in my head, I was still tempted to think that there was no point continuing with the meeting if people weren’t there.
So this event has reinforced my commitment to show up regardless of what happens. Whether things turn out as I want it or not, I commit to playing my part and playing it with a hundred per cent commitment.
So my question for you today is how will you show up this year? Share with me in the comments one thing that you are going to commit to doing this year without fail.
For me, I am going to write a blog post at least three times a week this year without fail.
I can’t wait to read from you. Do have a pleasant day ahead.
